ADDITIONAL INFO:     The Gunstock Trapper with the liner lock was made by Schrade from 1976 to 2004, when they closed. The shield on this knife says Asten and while I had seen the Asten shield before I did not know exactly what it was. After doing some Google research I discovered there were a lot of knives with the name Asten on them and most of them have the little Yen & Yang sign somewhere near the name. Some of the knives say “Asten Felts.” When I was able to piece together was that Asten was another company that produce felt for the paper industry and gave away lots of knives so that people working in the paper industry and using their products out a way to easily cut and fit the felt from the machines. I suppose the knives work just as well to cut the paper. That’s about all I could find in the way of background history for the Asten shield on this knife.

One other unusual thing about this knife is that the Delrin is darker than most Delrin I have seen. I’m not sure if that’s because this knife is been the box for the last 15 or 20 years or this was actually a variation in Schrade’s dyeing process. Whatever the reason, it makes a very nice looking knife!
