ADDITIONAL INFO: The Schrade Walden 880 pattern was made from 1953 until 1973. The 880 pattern was made for two years, 1974 and 1975, with just the Schrade name on the tang stamp. The Walden name was dropped from Schrade Walden tang stamps in mid-1973. After that the knives wore only the Schrade name in the tang stamp. This knife just has the Schrade tang stamp so it was made after June 1973 and before the pattern was discontinued after 1975. It is unusual to be able to date a Schrade knife so close to the date of manufacture, but sometimes things work out so you can date them, as in this case. I love this pattern, it’s a nice 4 inch stockman with a long match striker pull in the saber ground clip blade. The 880 is built on the same frame as the 8OT Old Timer. The saber ground blade is a nice heavy duty blade meant for lots of heavy work. As mentioned above there is a small amount of side play in the master blade and sheepfoot blade. The spey blade has no side play. This is typical of older knives made with the Swinden system. If a small amount of side play bothers you, this knife is not for you, but if you want a good workhorse that was rather limited production this would be a good one. This knife has lots of work left in it and would be an excellent EDC!
