ADDITIONAL INFO:      The #896 was a pattern carried over from the Schrade Cut Co days. It was formerly known as 8964K but the pattern was changed to 896K. This knife does not have the ‘K’ after the model number but looking at some of the black and white drawings in the old catalogs it appears that this celluloid we today call “butter & molasses” was what they called K-Horn in the 1950s. About 1960 with the arrival of Delrin at the Schrade Walden factory they stopped making the more unstable K-Horn celluloid and made Delrin handle that looks a little bit like horn but not at all like butter and molasses Delrin, in my opinion. The 3 9/16” size of this knife takes a very comfortable to use, and it fits nicely in the pocket and the butter and molasses celluloid makes it a beautiful knife to use. Whether for your pocket or your collection, this one is priced to sell. The 3 9/16” size of this knife and the rounded bolsters makes this a comfortable knife to use and to carry in your pocket. It’s not a big scary knife if you work in an office or an area where people are sensitive to large knives but it’s a good solid knife with lots of cutting power, perfect for the pocket or great in a collection!
