ADDITIONAL INFO: This is one of the nicest Schrade Walden 225H that I have found in a long time. No cracks in the Delrin handles. A very nice example of a Schrade Walden 225H. The 225H pattern was introduced 1957 as the Hunter’s & Trapper’s knife.  It last appeared in the Schrade catalogs in 1975. This knife was made prior to the name change in June 1973 when the name of Schrade Walden was changed to Schrade. The same pattern was also made in the Old Timer series as the 25OT. The 25OT was made from 1964 to 1993. This knife is rather unique in that it is such good condition and it has the blade etch for Herter’s Outfitters on the blade. This is the first one I have seen with this etch.

Herter's Inc. was the first big seller of outdoor gear come a long before Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. I grew up on a ranch in Southern Oregon in the 1960s and the Herter’s catalog we had, was my dream book! I spent many a snowy winter day sitting by the fire and trying to figure out how much I needed to save to get a rifle, new traps or a knife. The descriptions in the Herter’s catalog were very amusing and everything they sold was the “best that money could buy!” That catalog is long gone but a few years ago I happened to find a Herter’s catalog from 1969. Checking in that catalog, I found this knife listed in that catalog. It is not listed as a Schrade-Walden, but there some Schrade-Walden patterns listed under the heading of “Herter’s Toothpick Knives.” The description written in the catalog for these “Herter’s Toothpick Knives,” is very detailed, even if some of it was a bit of a stretch. If Schrade had put as much detail into their descriptions they would probably have sold even more knives. (If you ever have never read a Herter’s catalog, you're in for a treat if you ever get your hands on one, they're very informative, entertaining and some are quite humorous.)
