DAMAGE:   It appears that someone has sharpened the blade which removed most of the tungsten carbide that was fused to the blade. There is still some carbide remaining on the pile side of the blade.

BLADE WEAR:   The blade is the full 5 inch length that it should be, though it has been sharpened.

AGE:     This knife appeared in the Schrade catalogs from 1965 to 1971.

 ADDITIONAL INFO:     This knife was listed in the Schrade Walden catalogs from 1965 to 1971. Tungsten carbide was bonded to the cutting edge of the blade to create an impervious cutting edge. The problem with it was that most people didn't understand the purpose of the carbide on the edge, and sharpened it away. Some of the carbide is still visible on this blade, see the fifth picture. This is an interesting piece of Schrade cutlery history and of cutlery history in general. The 1965 Schrade Walden catalog says the blade is 5” inches and the knife is 9 ½” OAL. The blade in this knife is exactly 5” but the overall length of the knife is 9 3/8”. I don't think this knife has been used a great deal, and judging from the condition of the knife I have doubts it was ever a full 9 ½” OAL when it left the factory. Of course that wouldn't be the first time at the Schrade catalog was wrong! It comes with a leather sheath, though I am doubtful that it is the original sheath.
