1980's Stag "Coon Skinner" Boot Knife by Frost Cutlery Japan
Made in Japan!
Every knife enthusiast knows the name Jim Frost. Back in the 80's, fantastic pieces of high quality, low cost knives like this were making their way from Japan to US soil. At the time, they were often overlooked and considered inferior to American products. But over the years, collectors have not only warmed up to these Japanese knives; but many are outspoken fans.
This little workhorse is a fine example of why the minds of the masses have been turned. It features a 2.5" stainless steel drop point blade with a great blade etch design of a hunting dog which has treed a raccoon.
The blade and etch are pristine. No signs of any use or sharpening. The thick piece of steel runs the full length of the tang, sandwiched between two relatively thick pieces of stag, making this knife surprisingly easy to handle, given it's small size at just 5.75" overall.
Towards the butt of the pile side, there is an interesting wear pattern (see pics) which I can't tell is from wear or where a tine was cut from the stag during production. Aside from that this knife is near mint. Blade, scales and original leather sheath are all like new. The sheath is a boot knife style which can be worn concealed or open. Likewise, the blade fits the sheath in either direction to accommodate all users, in all carry positions.
Priced to sell. Built to last.
**Note: I am new to knife collecting and selling. All descriptions are to the best of my knowledge and in an attempt to be as honest and forthright as possible in regards to knife condition. I have conducted hours upon hours of research on each individual knife that comes into my possession in an attempt to set a fair price. PLEASE feel free to contact me for more information on this or any other item in my store.
