To all my followers that have stood with me through these troubling times. I’m still waking up after 5 weeks in ICU following emergency cancer surgery. As many of you know I’ve been battling colon cancer for over a year and a half and this last surgery was pretty debilitating and I’m still trying to get back to a decent baseline though I'll still be in rehab for several more weeks. I thought I had covered myself suffiently by taking a sales break and explaining my reasons for you not to bid at present but it did not go as well as planned and is already 7 times as far out as expected. I hope to be be back home in the next 3 -5 weeks through I don’t know if I can ever recover from all the poor results. I may just have to rebuild from scratch and try and rebuild my reputation. Rest assured one should be out a dime. If you haven’t received a full refund then file a claim with PayPal as they guarantee your payment. Again I apologize for what has transpired and caused you any angst. It still very possible for me to get your knife now if you still want it. Just send me a pic and updated shipping Address and I’ll do my best.  I am coming back up on line right now from my rehab bed though I'm having to coordinate sales and shipments back through my wife who knows less than zero about pocket knives.  But she does know how to get them shipped out so please bare with me das I start back slowly.  I still have some of the best looking old knives around.

This is a Vintage NEW YORK KNIFE CO “HAMMER BRAND” Model No. 187 1-Blade Swell Center Coke Bottle Back Lock Folding Hunting Knife with a Saber Clip Blade with a Long Nail Pull and with a Back Lock Mechanism That Locks the Blade in Place When Fully Open, a Excellent Plus Set of Jigged Medium Brown Bone Stag Scales in Great Condition with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, a Shallow Easy Open on the Bottom of Each Scale for Easier Access to the Blade Release Mechanism, a 1 9/16” Long Brightly Polished German Silver Fancy Gimp Style Shield on the Front Scale, Five (5) Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, Steel Single Flute Elongated Bolsters, Brightly Polished German Silver Flat and Rounded End Caps Drilled for a Lanyard or Clip and Each Stamped with NYK, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, a Heavy Duty Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks and the Back Lock Mechanism and Blade Release, 5 7/16” in Length with the Blade Closed, Made by the New York Knife Company that was Located in Walden, New York and Probably the Finest and Highest Quality Knife Makers Ever and Made Between c.1882-1931.

This NYKC Model No 187 certainly isn’t the best example I’ve ever owned nor is it anywhere near the worst of the two dozen or so I’ve owned. This knife has a used and sharpened 3 7/8” long carbon steel saber clip blade with a long nail pull.  This makes the blade about 1/2” shorter than when it left the factory. The front face has scratches from use and sharpening along 9th just very very light staining.  The rear face has scratches from use and sharpening. It has a few moderate pits just about halfway up the blade and just above the bevel.  Stamped on the front tang is HAMMER (over) BRAND along with the Hammer Brand arm and hammer logo. Stamped on the rear tang is NEW YORK (over) KNIFE CO (over) WALDEN. The blade still has a good to excellent snap on both open and close. The bottom lock locks the blade solidly in place when fully open. The blade has some moderate side to side wobble when fully open and just a hair of up and down play.  The knife has an excellent plus set of medium brown jigged bone stag scales. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. About half of the 187s I’ve had have had a tight crack from the center pin over to the back lock but not so on this one. She’s crack free. There are a shallow easy open on the bottom of each scale for easier access to the blade release mechanism. There is a large 1 9/16” long brightly polished German Silver fancy gimp style shield on the front scale. There are five (5) brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has brass liners.  It has brightly polished German Silver rounded bolsters with a single flute. The end caps are German Silver and flat and each is stamped heavily stamped with NYK. Plus there’s a factory drilled hole in the end caps for a lanyard or clip. There’s a two piece steel back spring with no cracks or breaks and the two meet where the back lock for the blade is located. The back lock locks the blade tightly in the open position and releases with just the right amount of force. This hard to find in any condition NYKC Model No. 187 Swell Center Coke Bottle Lock Back Folding Hunting Knife was made in the New York Knife Company factory that was located in Walden, New York between c.1882-1931 and is 5 7/16” in length.  Its not the nicest model no. 187 I’ve ever owned but the blade, even 1/2” short still has a lot of life in it. I’ve sold less quality of these for $300.00+.  Don’t be afraid to make an offer. All I can say is No at the worst and maybe yes if it’s fair offer. Please legitimate fair offers please. Those that like to make offers of 40% or less just don’t waste yours and mine’s time. I have enough buyers blocked ready for that. Definitely negotiable. This is a great knife for the collector starting out who just can’t afford better examples that sell from $375.00-$800.00. Not a lot of room on this one. Additional information or photos upon request.
