This is an Antique or Vintage NEW YORK KNIFE CO WALDEN 2-Blade Teardrop Jack Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, Black Ebony Wood Scales, Three (3) German Silver Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished German Silver Rounded Bolsters and Teardrop End Caps, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, Two Steel Back Springs with No Cracks or Breaks, Made by the New York Knife Co. that was Located in Little Valley, New York and Made Between c.1856 and 1931 and is 3 3/8” in length.

This is a New York Knife Co. Teardrop Jack with Ebony scales. Though not stamped on either blade I believe this was their Model No. 2040 as it’s an exact match to the one in their catalog. This NYKC Knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a very long nail pull.  Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening but only a very few light micro-pits. Stamped on the front tang is NEW YORK (over) KNIFE CO (over) WALDEN. The knife also has a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. Both faces of this blade have scratches from use and sharpening but are otherwise pretty clean. Stamped on the front tang of the pen blade is NEW YORK (over) KNIFE CO (over) WALDEN. The spear blade has excellent snap on open and close and a solid half-stop. The pen blade, however, has about the lightest snap possible and no half-stop. It’s actually quiet. Based on the catalog drawings I’d say both of the blades are at about 85% of when they were full. The knife has black Ebony wood scales. Both scales are in excellent condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There is a brightly polished German Silver fancy shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three (3) brass handle pins in each scale and the end pin on the cap end on the rear scale has been driven down out of sight. The knife has brightly polished German rounded bolsters and end teardrop shaped caps. Both the bolsters and end caps are free of any dents and no more than some incidental and hardly noticeable dings or scratches. The liners are polished brass. The knife has two steel back springs and both are free of any breaks or cracks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This vintage New York Knife Company Hammer Brand Model No. 2040 Teardrop Jack Pocket Knife is 3 3/8” in length. Additional photos or information on request.
