Memorial Day sale, through June 5. In honor of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, Thank You! Craftsman 49STC Fixed Blade (tungsten carbide coated edge)  BRAND:   Craftsman MAKER:  Schrade PATTERN:    498STC BLADE ETCH:   None remaining OAL:   9-1/4” BLADE LENGTH:   5” GUARD:   Brass POMMEL: Staglon TANG STAMPS:   CRAFTSMAN / U.S.A. SHEATH:   New aftermarket leather sheath. CONDITION:   Excellent DAMAGE:   Blade has been used and sharpened. It is approximately ¼” short on the overall length. BLADE WEAR:   The overall length of blade is about 1/4” inch shorter than 9-1/2” listed by Schrade in 1965. AGE:    Circa 1965     MADE IN:   U.S.A.   ADDITIONAL INFO:     This appears to be an SFO, (special factory order) from Schrade circa 1965 or later. I believe it is a 498STC which means it had a tungsten carbide edge and probably had a Ted Williams blade etch. The tungsten carbide edge is only visible at the back of the sharpened edge on the pile side there is a dull spot by the cutting edge about 3/4” long and is all that remains of the tungsten carbide edge that originally served to keep this knife sharper longer. The one thing I do not understand about this blade is that it has a fuller. It is a saber ground blade with a fuller. Which is a bit unusual because the catalogs do not show the Craftsman 498STC is ever having a fuller and the Schrade 498 is not shown with a fuller either. According to all the evidence I can find in the catalogs, the 498 pattern was listed in the catalogs from 1973 until 1979 with the mothering handle and  from 1973 to 1983 with the Staglon handle. There is some light staining on the blade. At this beautiful old piece to your collection!   *By Purchasing, The Buyer Confirms It Is Legal For Them Purchase And Own This Knife.   I Accept Money Orders, Personal Checks and PayPal.   Shipped by Priority Mail envelope or box in the USA.
