ADDITIONAL INFO:   As you can see from these pictures, the blade on this knife is not stainless steel, it is carbon steel. Many people, especially hunters prefer carbon steel because of the ease of touching up the edge while in the field. The 153UH, Golden Spike, was introduced in 1973 and there was no notation of the steel type that I have been able to find until the 1978 Short Line catalog. In the 1978 short line it said this about the Uncle Henry knives, “Folding knife blades are of rust resistant Schrade+ steel.” I could find no mention of the fixed blade Uncle Henrys having Schrade+ steel, until the 1983 catalog, with the exception of the flexible blade fillet knives 162UH, 164UH & 167UH which had Schrade+ Steel in 1982, when they were introduced. In the 1983 Short Line Catalog all of the Uncle Henry patterns, both folding and fixed blade were described as having Schrade+ steel.

Assuming that the information listed in the catalogs is accurate, (big assumption), this carbon steel 153UH should’ve been made between 1973 and 1983. There is always the possibility that Schrade made what they called a rolling change, that is, they began using new materials in existing patterns without announcing a change or making any notification in their catalog support to their dealers.

At any rate this 153UH Golden Spike is made with a carbon steel blade and will make an outstanding user or collector piece.
