ADDITIONAL INFO:      Joe Beaver is a world champion Calf Roper. He was crowned Calf Roping Rookie of the Year, and also World Champion in 1985. He had back-to-back world championships in 1987 and 1988. He took the Calf Roping World Title in 1992 and 1993, and in 1995 he won the All-Around World Championship. In 1996 he won the title of World Champion All-Around Cowboy. I believe this knife was made in 1997 after he won the All-Around Cowboy title, and that fits in the production range of this knife; the partially serrated CH8 was introduced in 1997 Schrade catalog and was last seen in the 1999 Schrade catalog. The CH8 with the fully serrated blade was introduced in 1996 and last seen in the 1998 catalog. The CH8FE (fine edge) was introduced in 1998 and last seen in the 1999 catalog. The unique feature of the Cliphanger is that they have a plastic clip on a lanyard that slides into a slot in the handle of the knife and the other end of the lanyard has a plastic clip that goes over your belt so that the knife hangs suspended on the lanyard but can also be tucked into your pocket or it can ride protected from loss but ready to be grabbed quickly when needed. The knife opens one-handed with a thumb stud. The Joe Beaver model also has a metal clip, which can be inserted into the handle and function as a regular pocket clip. The pocket clip on the lanyard however cannot be used simultaneously. I have a number of these knives, in fact I was given one by my son for a present in the late 90s and it was a good EDC knife.

This is a piece of cutlery history as well as rodeo memorabilia. The short lived production of these Cliphanger knives make them especially desirable.
