I think that sometimes cutlers just like to show off a little.  That certainly seems to be the case with this terrific little lobster pattern gentlemen's knife.  It bears the Hammer Brand tang stamp on the main blade and the New York Knife Co. stamp on the two secondary blades.  New York Knife Co. used  Hammer Brand on its knives from 1878-1932, so this little sweetheart has got some age on it for sure. The handles are beautiful jigged bone with the distinctive New York Knife Co. jigging pattern.  The knife has a fancy swedged main blade that sports a long pull.  The two pen blades are perfectly positioned so that everything opens and closes properly with good snap and without any blades touching.  Blades show little if any wear but do have some patina as one might expect on a knife that's nearly a century old.  On the back side on the knife is a manacure blade perfectly designed to clean and file ones fingernails. The tipped bolsters and heraldic shield are nickel silver.  When you add it all together, it's one impressive example of top notch American cutlery art at its best.
