This is a Vintage ULSTER KNIFE CO. BSA #1502 “Official” Boy Scouts of America Folding Pocket Knife with 1 Cutting Blade and 4-Tools, with a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Combination Blade with a Cap-Lifter (Bottle Opener) and a Flat Blade Screwdriver, a Carbon Steel Can Opener Blade, a Carbon Steel Leather Punch Blade, a Perfect Set of Light to Medium Brown Jigged Bovine Bone Scales with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, a Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Federal Type Shield Inlaid in the Front Scale with the BSA Logo Stamped Within it, Three Brightly Polished Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Rounded Bolsters, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, Two Heavy Duty Steel Back Springs with No Cracks or Breaks, 3 5/8” in Length, Made by the Ulster Knife Company Located in Ellensville, New York and Made Between 1923-1941

This Ulster Knife Co.”Official” Boy Scout Knife is in very good condition. The New York Knife Company was the first and only official maker of knives for the Boy Scouts of America starting around 1910 or 1911 until 1922 when both Remington and Ulster Dwight Divine became the second and third companies authorized to make Official BSA knives. The Knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a long nail pull. Both blade faces have scratches from use and sharpening.  Both faces have scattered tiny micro-pits that are difficult to see with the unaided eye and otherwise some light staining. Stamped on the front tang is ULSTER (over) KNIFE CO. (over) N.Y.  Ulster’s Model No. 1502 for this knife was actually 47533L5 though this was never stamped on the Knife. 1502 is not stamped on the blade but many never were stamped with the model number. Next to the spear blade is a carbon steel combination blade consisting of a cap-lifter, or bottle opener, and a flat blade screwdriver. Both blade faces have just a bit of very light scattered staining. Stamped on the bottom of the front face is ULSTER (over) KNIFE (over) CO.  On the other end of the knife is a carbon steel can opener blade. It is mechanically sound with some scattered staining and scratches. The last blade is a carbon steel leather punch. It polished up brightly but has scattered staining on both the inside and outside of the blade. Plus it’s still full length with the tip intact. The combo blade, the punch and the can opener blade all have hard open and close snap. The spear blade has a light thump on open and a light half-stop but is quiet on close. This knife has an excellent plus set of light to medium brown jigged bovine bone scales. It looks like there might have been some light chipping on the very bottom of the rear scale. It’s only a small area and no that noticeable. Other than this there are no other cracks or splits.  There’s a small notch on the top of the front scale where the thumb stud of the can opener seats when closed. There’s also a shallow easy open on the top of the rear scale for easier access to opening the punch blade. There is a brightly polished nickel silver Federal style shield inlaid in the front scale. Stamped inside the shield is the BSA logo consisting of the spread winged eagle over the Fleur de Lis and BE PREPARED stamped beneath it. This shield is unique to Pre-1941 Ulster Dwight Divine BSA knives. There are three (3) polished brass handle pins In the front scale and four (4) in the rear scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver rounded bolsters. They’re free of any dents or dings. The original shackle is still riveted to the bolsters.  The knife has brightly polished brass liners.  The knife has two heavy duty steel back springs. They are free of any cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This great old vintage, hard to find, Ulster Knife Company, run by Dwight Divine, “Official” Boy Scouts of America BSA #1502 Folding Knife was made in their factory located in Ellensville, New York and made between the years 1923-1941.
