This is a Vintage CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY CO LITTLE VALLEY N.Y. Model No. 2343 2-Blade Equal End Oval Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Great Set of Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales with One Short Pin Crack on the Rear Scale but No Other Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, Two Polished Nickel Silver Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Rounded Tip Bolsters, Brightly Polished Brass Blade Liners, a Single Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, 2 3/4” in Length, Made by the Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. that was Located in Little Valley, New York and Made Between c.1886-1963.

This is a Cattaraugus Cutlery Co equal end Oval pen pocket knife with a nice set of Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a common nail pull. There are three large clusters of light pitting on the front face with one above the end of the nail pull, a smaller one just under the nail pull and another near the tang. The rear face is in much better condition with only some scattered very light pitting running along the top of the blade. Some nimrod ill-advisedly tried cleaning off the rust or staining with something abrasive, most likely a knife eraser, and now the faces have more horizontal scratches from cleaning than they do vertical scratches from use. Stamped on the front tang is CATTARAUGUS (in an arch)(over) CUTLERY CO (over) LITTLE VALLEY (over) N.Y. Stamped on the rear tang is the code number for the knife of 2343. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. The front face has three clusters of very light pitting and just some light scratches from use and sharpening. The rear face has a little very light pitting running just along the top of the blade. The pen blade was also cleaned with an abrasive. Both blades still have very good open and close snap. The knife has a nice set of genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales. There is a single short 3/32” long pin crack on the rear scale on the pen blade pivot end. It runs from the pin to the tip bolster which is 3/32” long tops. Other than the one too many there are no other cracks, splits or missing chips. They do have a little bit of color but I wouldn’t call them fiery. The pearl is very translucent though meaning the grays and whites seem to move as you rotate the knife. There are two nickel silver handle pins in each scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver rounded tip bolsters. They’re all free of any dents, dings or visible scratches. The liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has a single brightly polished steel back spring, is free of any cracks or breaks and it continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. The knife is 2 3/4” in length. Made by the Cattaraugus Cutlery Company that was located in Little Valley, New York and made between c.1886-1963. Additional photos or information on request.
