This is a **RARE** Used and Sharpened Vintage, or Antique, NEW YORK KNIFE CO. WALDEN “HAMMER BRAND” Silver-toned 2-Blade Equal End Shadow Pen Folding Twist Ring Pocket Knife and has a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, Brightly Polished Etched or Embossed Silver-tone Handles with a Very Decorative and Intricate Floral Motif and with a Twist Ring on Each Side as an Alternative Method for Opening and Closing the Blades, a Single Brightly Polished Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, 3 1/8” in Length, Made by the New York Knife Company that was Located in Walden, New York with this Particular Knife Made Between c.1882 and 1931.

This is only the second twist ring knife I’ve seen made by NYKC and the first one I’ve ever owned and it still functions perfectly. This is a **RARE** New York Knife Company Hammer Brand 2-blade shadow pen twist ring pocket knife. It has a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a common nail pull. The front face has scratches from use and a single small cluster of micro-pits. The rear face has scratches from use and less than a handful of micro-pits. It opens with either the standard nail pull or can be opened or closed with the twist ring on the handle. Stamped on the front tang is HAMMER (over) BRAND along with the NYKC arm and hammer Hammer Brand logo. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. It too can either be opened with the nail pull or opened or closed with the twist ring. Both faces have scratches from use and just a couple of light stains or light pits. Stamped on the front tang is NEW YORK (over) KNIFE CO. (over) WALDEN. Both blades have a decent or light thump on open and close but that’s hindered by the twist ring mechanism. Both twist rings will fully open and close both blades. Note that the second blade to close will bump into the first blade closed and will need to be guided over by hand or finger to close fully. The handles on the knife are a very decorative silver-toned metal with a raised and very decorative and intricate floral design. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t make these handles from sterling silver but they aren’t stamped as such so I can only only believe they’re just silver-toned. They’re in fantastic shape and I don’t see any scratching on them at all. Both ring mechanisms work perfectly. The knife has a single steel back spring with no breaks or cracks. It continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This **RARE** New York Knife Co. Hammer Brand Shadow Pen Twist Ring Folding Picket Knife is 3 1/8” in length and hard to find in any condition let alone one that polished up this well.
