This is a beautiful intricately decorated Sterling Silver Shadow Pen pocket knife made by the Union Cutlery Co and using their KA-BAR trademark. The knife has a lightly used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a common nail pull. It has scratches from use and light staining on both blade faces. Stamped on the front tang is KA-BAR. On the other end of the frame is a lightly used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. It has scratches from use and just a few very light pits. Stamped on the front tang is UC CO (in an arch)(over) OLEAN (over) N.Y. Both blades have good to excellent open and close snap. The scales are a great looking intricately decorated brightly polished Sterling Silver with intricate designs and with significant difference in the higher and lower relief of the design. There is an open area on each scale that can be used to etch initials or a name. Inside of each of these two areas it is stamped as STERLING. There is a single nickel silver pin in each scale along with the rivets holding the original bail to the frame. The knife has either sterling, or more likely, steel liners. The knife has a single polished steel back spring which is in great condition with no cracks or breaks and it continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This is a great vintage KA-BAR Union Cut Co Sterling Silver Shadow Pen Pocket Knife that was made in Olean, N.Y. between c.1923-1951 and is 3” in length.
