This is a knife with an interesting history. Made for the Herbertz company in Germany. This knife was made in the 1980's in Japan. Back in the 70's and 80's knives made in Japan were viewed much like knives made in China are today. The Herbertz company has a long history dating back to 1868. Back many years ago they were known for copying successful patterns and reproducing them cheaply, usually in the Far East somewhere. That's the time frame this knife comes from. The blade is only marked with the word Rostfrei. The stainless may have come from Germany but that's unlikely. This knife was found in a warehouse of one of Japan's knife masters after his passing, either Tak Fukuta or Seizo Imai. The information on this is being kept secret and if I get this confirmed I will add a note to this listing.

This knife is really a striking knife. The blade is stainless steel, most likely 440 or 420. The bolsters are nickel silver and so are the pins. The liners are brass. Blade has never been used or resharpened. The grey Micarta on this is beautiful and probably the best feature of this knife. No chips or cracks in the handles. Good lock up with a very nice "click". The release is just a little stiff but should loosen with use. The run up, where the blade and backspring meet, is tight. The only thing I can fault is the angled cut on the backspring where the lock meets the frame. It looks just a little off and a bit of a gap. Measures right at 4 inches closed OAL.

No box. Free shipping within the USA.

Edit: I have confirmed that these knives were indeed made in Japan by either Master Imai or Fukuta. Most likely Fukuta. The stainless is German steel.
