LINERS:   Brass liners, the back of the center liner has been milled.

CONDITION:  Very Good +

DAMAGE:   Normal wear, some staining of blades. A hairline pin crack at the pile side rocker pin. No other chips or cracks noted. I would have missed this crack if it didn’t have a little discoloration in the crack.

BLADE WEAR:   Estimated at less than 20%.

SNAP:   Incredibly strong snap and half stops with all four blades! All snap open and closed!

ADDITIONAL INFO:     John Goins in his book; “Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings” dates the markings of A. J. Jordan Germany has been used circa 1878 to 1926. The company had knives stamped Germany, Solingen, Sheffield and Sheffield England. Goins also states that the company was located in St. Louis, Missouri and much of the firm’s business was done with Indian tribes.

This is all I have been able to find on this company so far. I imagine most of the knives they traded with to the Indians were fixed blade knives at that point in time. But obviously the company knew how to make very fine quality pocketknives! The width of the bottom of the knife may shoot across the springs is 7/32” not including the handle material itself. Including the handle material 11/32”. The Mother of Pearl handles are carved into a beautiful checker pattern and the crown bolsters are absolutely amazing with four grooves on the bolster and a fifth as part of the crown! The center liner is also mailed. I will be adding another picture or two to show the milled liner and the pin crack if I can get my camera focused that small.
