ADDITIONAL INFO:             This is another classic pattern from World War II. You will find pictures of this pattern on page 65 & 67 of Mike Silvey’s book; Pocket Knives of the United States Military, and the description on page 66. There is more information available as well in , “The Complete Book of US Military Pocket Knives”, also by Mike Silvey. I highly recommend both books.

The beautiful Roger’s bone handles as used on this knife, ceased being manufactured sometime in the early 1960s. These knives were made for the U.S. Navy as their General Utility Knife during World War II, and probably shortly after the end of the war. This knife is a bit different in that it does have brass liners and nickel silver bolsters. Both of these materials were discontinued early in the war so that the brass could be used in the war effort and the knives made during the height of the war had steel bolsters and steel liners. Towards the end of WW II as brass & nickel silver were no longer in short supply, the companies building the General Utility Knives began using brass liners & nickel silver bolsters again. I believe this knife was made toward the end of World War II after the brass supplies were restored. The other thing that makes me believe it was made towards the end of the war is that it is in very good condition. Most of these knives I find have been well used, often abused and many have been used up. Often you find the clevis or lanyard loop has been removed but on this knife it is intact and undamaged.
