Vintage WWII E.G. Waterman EGW Fighting Knife - Sawback Blade - Project / User Condition

Up for sale is an authentic, vintage World War II E.G. Waterman (EGW) Fighting and Utility Knife. Produced in New York City during the 1940s, these distinctive knives were a favorite choice for American troops looking for a versatile, rugged combat and survival tool to carry into the field.

This particular specimen features the iconic dual-purpose design elements that made the EGW famous, including a serrated sawback spine and an integrated bottle cap lifter built right into the ricasso.

Condition Report:

The Blade & Tip: The heavy high-carbon steel blade displays an honest, dark vintage gray patina, surface oxidation, and typical age-appropriate spotting throughout. The sawback serrations along the spine remain sharp and distinct. Please note that the very tip of the blade has a structural fracture and is actively trying to break or let go from a historical impact (clearly visible in the close-up tip photo). The blade will need a careful regrind at the point if intended for use, or it can be left exactly as-is for historical display. The ricasso is deeply and cleanly stamped with the classic block letters "E G W KNIFE".

The Handle: This model features the correct WWII factory wood handle scales wrapped in a leather sleeve. As is common with many field-carried EGW knives where the leather dried out or split, this one has a secure, vintage protective wrap over the midsection. The oval metal crossguard and steel pommel cap remain structurally tight with zero wobble. The original top lanyard loop remains intact at the butt.

The Sheath: Includes a matching, heavy-duty vintage brown leather belt sheath. The leather is well-preserved, remaining supple with strong, tight factory stitching and all original retaining rivets firmly in place. It shows normal surface scuffs and minor darkening from long-term storage but presents beautifully.
