In 1968, Browning introduced a line of cutlery in the form of 3 fixed-blade hunting knives and a folding knife designed by Custom Knifemaker Gil Hibben and included a foldover sheath. These initial knives were created by Ichiro Hattori in Seki, Japan. Later knives were produced in the USA, Japan and Germany and featured a 2 piece sheath with a leather welt. Last photos shows revised sheath (this is not being offered but only to show the revised sheath and manufacture).

The first production knives with the foldover sheath were suseptible to having the tip pierce the sheath when it is not carefully sheathed due to the upsweep of the blade. This sheath shows evidence of that happening to it in photo #9 and was quite common. The sheath has been waxed, I assume to preserve it.

The Browning Sportsman Series Model 40181 is called a Trailing Point Knife and is 8" OALwith a 4" blade. The blade was made of 440c steel and the wood handle is Staminawood. The blade shows no scratched, wether it is the factory edge I cannot say. Some of the brass is tarnished but is in good overall condition. Box shows wear as evidenced by the photographs, the parchment paper about the Browning Sportsman Series Knives is included.
