ADDITIONAL INFO:   I love Western knives because of the awesome carbon steel they have in them however I don’t have room enough to collect them so when I find one I pass it along hoping that one of our members who collects them or uses them will pick them up.

Thanks to one of our very knowledgeable members he shared with me that this knife was made probably in mid to late 1942 based on the fact that it has a steel guard and an aluminum pommel. The US fully committed to World War II with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Brass immediately became difficult for cutlery manufacturers to get because it was used for shell casings. Once the brass companies had on hand at the beginning of 1942 was used up they had to use other materials in this case Western used steel. Later on in the war aluminum became more difficult to get and companies begin to substitute other materials for the aluminum in knife pommels. Later on in World War II some pommels and even a few guards were made out of plastic. This knife was apparently made after the brass shortage began and prior to the aluminum shortage.

The sheath is not the original Western sheath that is a very well made custom sheath made from heavier leather than one usually finds in the Western sheaths from the 1940s and 1950s. An excellent addition to your collection or your hunting gear.
