ADDITIONAL INFO:      This is the Craftsman Whittler’s Knife made by Ulster/Schrade. This knife appears to have Bonite, which I believe predated Delrin. I would date this knife circa 1960. At that time Schrade and Ulster occupied the same factory can shared the same machinery and workforce. It was also around this time that they were perfecting the Swinden system, which this knife seems to have and it was also around this time that they began using Delrin. Changes in manufacturing are generally not instantaneous; there is lag time as stocks of all parts are used up, for example the start of Bonite handles would have been used up before they switched to the new Delrin handles. I think that is probably what happened in the case of this knife. It’s not often that one can date a Schrade/Ulster knife to a specific year or two, but in this instance I believe this knife was made in 1960 or 1961, because it does have the older Bonite handles and yet it also has the newer Swinden construction. It appears those two crossed paths when this knife was made circa 1960. Of course this knife is and SFO (Special Factory Order) made under the Craftsman name for Sears. I left this knife and polished, and unsharpened as I found it. If you would like me to sharpen it before I ship it to you, just let me know and I will be happy to sharpen it at no charge.
