Made In USA - World War II Engineer’s Knife

BRAND:  Made In USA

MAKER:   Unknown, probably Ulster or Camillus. (See Pocket Knives of the US Military by Michael W Silvey; page 52, 54 & 55)

PATTERN:   Engineers knife

LENGTH (Closed):   3-3/4”

BOLSTERS:   Steel

HANDLES:   Rogers bone

BLADES:   Spear blade, punch, can opener and screwdriver/cap lifter blade, (pre-safety can opener)

LINERS:   Steel

TANG STAMPS:   MADE IN/USA

CONDITION:   Very Good (except for patch in the handle)

DAMAGE:    Aside from the normal wear and light pitting to the rear bolsters, normal wear and scratches to blades there is a patch in the handle on the front side at the front handle pin up to the top of the handle. Whoever patched this is a very good job because I missed it when I bought the knife and I almost missed it just now when I was listing it.

BLADE WEAR:   Blades are very full. Spear blade was probably sharpened but appears to be 99%+. Punch blade is in excellent condition

SNAP:   Outstanding snap on all four blades.

MADE IN:   U.S.A.

ADDITIONAL INFO:      This knife is in very good condition except for the patch on the front handle. The all steel construction indicates the knife was made after the start of the war brass was being used for shell casings and not knife liners. The two-piece construction can opener indicates the knife was made prior to 1944 when the can opener was changed to the standardized single piece construction safety can opener. Whoever patched this handle did an excellent job, and the jigging is almost perfect, the color is a very close, but what gives it away is that it lacks the sheen of the polished bone. This would be a great knife for a user, an excellent candidate for a rehandling or an excellent source for nice full blades if you need to repair another knife or two.
