James Bowie and Rezin Bowie Commemorative & Cherry wood presentation case

This knife is as new, never carried and never re-sharpened. The blade is 9-1/2” tip to tang, with an over all length of 14” long.

This Commemorative Jim Bowie Knife was issued by the United States Historical Society several years ago and commemorates the Vidalia, Mississippi sandbar knife fight which established the Bowie legend 180+ years ago. The knife is 14 inches long and was made by the finest knife makers in Solingen in West Germany. The tempered, beautifully blued steel blade is deeply etched of portraits of the heroes James and Rezin Bowie. Rezin actually designed the first Bowie knife that he lent his brother Jim for a night fight on the sandbar. The rest is history. The embellishing on the blade is 24-karat gold. German silver fittings enhance hand-rubbed rosewood handle. The official price of these knives were $350, and a limited production of 500 of these were to be made. The knife is a great looker and the handle feels expensive and balanced. The German silver fittings embellish the knife's handle, which is 5 inches. The handle's beautifully grained rosewood contrasts handsomely with its special silvery guard, ferrule and pommel. Remember, there are thousands of Bowie knifes that have been made since 1827 and they all begin to look the same, but this one uses the first Rezin Bowie knife as a design. As the legend grew, the shapes and sizes of Bowie knifes changed to suit buyers' ideas. This knife comes in a Cherry wood case with a red lining and gold looking hinges and lock.
