These knives brought back by out troops after WWII did not have 'Germany' on the frame or blade. This knife dates to just after WWII when the Kaufmann co. was still in business; they started making these knives in the 1870s. So, tis knife is 4 1/4" closed, it has the red fiber blade stop, very early, and the back of the frame is stamped Mercator Germany. This knife came, deep, but had no sign of any rust and is mostly full, locks up tight, tiny movement and releases via a top lock. Tang stamped Mercator/Solingen Germany. Nice loud snap! Production marks are visable on the blade. A bit of history; the heinrich Kaufmann brgan in 1870 and was sold to Otto messer which makes the knife today. The K55K, K stands for cat, 55 for their original address in Solingen Hochstrasse 55
