Old New York Knife Company Walden Timber Scribe Race Raze Knife

These were use as a cutting tool in the early American timber & wood working industry. The end of the "7" has a honed edge which is used to score or mark wood.

Tang stamped:

with the Arm & Hammer logo.

It is 3 5/8 inches closed and 6 1/4 inches open approximately.

Tear drop shaped handles/scales. They are rosewood, I believe. No cracks or chips.

Steel liners, bolsters and pins. Excellent snap open and closing with half stop also. There is some light pitting and overall patina. Not dented up or anything like that.

This one here is still in excellent shape and useable, if desired. No side play or wobble and locks up tight.

I have found these in American hardware store catalogs as far back as 1914 to date the manufacture, although the pattern has been made longer than that.

New York Knife Company was in business from 1856 to 1931, a victim of the last American Depression.
