This is an interesting little knife from Challenge Cutlery Co out of Bridgeport, Connecticut. They came onto the scene in 1891 and started producing pocket knives around 1905. 

This knife is a bit different than most Challenge knives I've seen, due to the fact that it is 100% stainless steel; the blade, scales, pins and back spring. Stainless steel was still pretty new to the industry when Challenge closed up shop in 1928, meaning they must have been early adopters of the new technology.

Another unusual characteristic of this knife is the stamp on the pile side of the blade. While some of their knives had a model number stamped here, this one has a "US" stamp. My research has yet to determine whether it was made for military or government use, (they did produce knives for the navy in WWI) or if it was marked as such for export (my 2 working theories) Perhaps you will have more luck getting to the bottom of this.

Lightly used condition. Excellent snap on open, close and half stop. No wobble or play. "Big C big E" arched tang stamp. 3.5" OAL.

I feel like I may regret letting this go at this price. But that's how we learn.
