This Vintage Sgian Dubh was made by the Thomas Kerr Ebbutt manufacturing company in Edinburgh Scotland.  The piece is given prominence by the the maker's mark, which marks the marker as well as the date code as 1949.  This a RARE Piece to find.

The piece features a mirror polish blade, intricate sterling silver furniture, and a carved blackwood handle.  This piece has been in a single private family collection for over 60 years, and was brought to the states by the buyer on a well publicized trip across Europe.   The silver piece on the bottom of the handle is a bit loose, and the handle has a few small chips in the blackwood carving.

Thomas Kerr Ebbutt was a Scottish manufacturing jeweler, St David’s Square, Edinburgh. Thomas Ebbutt started work in 1896 and died in 1921. From the beginning he concentrated on making Highland Dress accoutrements.  His company continued in business until 1977 when it was bought by Hamilton & Inches.  Thomas Kerr Ebbutt sgian dubhs are highly prized and respected for their beauty & high quality.

This piece is a magnificent example of the mid 20th century hand built Scottish accoutrements, and would make a very welcome piece to any serious collector of this style of product.
