RARE Vintage Solingen, Gustav Neeff Straight Razor - Metro Steel - New York 1920s-1930s
This fantastic straight razor was made in Solingen, Germany (the City of Blades) by renowned blade maker Gustav Neeff. The model 406 blade was imported to New York City for Metro-Steel Razor Company.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the thriving metropolis of New York City attracted countless numbers of entrepreneurs from across the globe, looking to build their empire. Metro-Steel was among those companies that helped their founders realize their American Dream. While the US had already proven its manufacturing capabilities, post Industrial Revolution, it was still an undisputed fact that the best blade steel came from Solingen, Germany and Sheffield, England. Nearly all of the major knife and razor companies of the era had their blades made in one or both of these cities. Sadly, a vast majority of these companies lived an exciting, yet brief, life. Massive numbers of competitors, the Great Depression, multiple wars and the dawn of disposable razors, caused most of these companies to collapse; Metro-Steel being among them. While little information can be found on Metro-Steel today, their legacy lives on through their partnership with Gustav Neeff.
This razor is dated from the period of 1920's to 1930's when knives and razors were beginning to use stainless steel to replace high carbon blades. The use of this newer preferred steel helped this razor withstand the test of time. While most high carbon blades from this era would have deteriorated from rust and heavy pitting, this blade is still ready to be put to use or put on display. You can hone it and shave with it the same day it arrives at your home!
Add some history to your living room.
Add some class to your morning routine.
Add some flair to your man cave.
This razor can do it all.
