ADDITIONAL INFO:     In 1975 Gerber introduced their large Folding Sportsmen III. It came with both wood and stag handles but the stag handles, as well as some special sets with agate and Jade handles. There were also a number of them that were engraved. There were some being made up until 1995 when they were all discontinued.

Being from Oregon and having managed a cutlery store in the 1980s and early 1990s approximately 40 miles from the Gerber factory I have seen, sold and sharpened a lot of Gerber knives. There is something iconic about the Folding Sportsman series of knives; to me they are the knife that comes to my mind when I think of a Gerber pocketknife. I have both the FS I and the FS II and I EDC both, however the first time I recall seeing the FS III version. This is a handful of knife! 

Full disclosure: this knife is a repair. I replaced the striped ebony inlays with Ziricote wood. Some use the back of the knife is a hammer and there are a few dings and dents I could not remove. The knife does have good walk and talk.
