This is a Very ***RARE*** Vintage Antique NORTHFIELD KN CO 2-Blade Swell Center Balloon Pen, or Northfield Pattern, Folding Pocket Knife with a Carbon Steel Long Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Dual-Sided Fingernail File, or Manicure, Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Very Nice Set of Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales in Perfect Condition with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, Three (3) Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Extended Pointed End Bolsters with No Dents or Dings, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, a Single Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, 3” in Length, Made by the Northfield Knife Co. Located in Northfield, Connecticut and Made Between c.1856-1919.

I know there are a lot of collectors out there for old Connecticut made knives and here is a rare one. This is a Northfield Knife Co. Of Northfield, Connecticut, 2-blade swell center pen knife. Western States called this pattern with the pointed end the Northfield pattern in honor of Harvey Platts, the founder of Western States, who worked for Northfield for years. The knife has a carbon steel long  spear point main blade with a common nail pull.  The front face has scattered light pitting and some scratches from use but polished up cleanly. The rear face is much cleaner with only some very scattered light staining. The blade is still pretty close to full. Stamped on the front tang is NORTHFIELD (in an arch)(over) KN CO. It’s a pretty limited space on the tang. On the other end is a carbon steel dual-sided fingernail file, or manicure, secondary blade with a common nail pull.  Theres a standard vertical ridge and valley type file on each face. The top of this blade is the fingernail cleaner and the front edge is sharpened. It’s got just a little staining mainly on the rear tang. Stamped on the front tang is NORTHFIELD (in an arch)(over) KN CO.  The spear blade has just a very faint snap on open but a very good snap on close. The fingernail file blade has a very good so on both open and close. The knife has a really nice set of genuine Mother-of-Pearl scales in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There are three (3)  brass handle pins in each scale. It has brightly polished nickel silver extended and pointed bolsters. The liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has a single polished steel back spring and it’s free of any cracks or breaks and continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This lightly used vintage and ***RARE*** Northfield Knife Co Swell Center Pen Pocket Knife was made between c.1856-1919 and is 3” in length. Additional information or photos upon request.
