I’ve gotta number of old Imperial and Hammer Brand knives I’ve accumulated while filling out several countertop displays. As I finally found mint or near mint examples the lesser quality knives were replaced. This is a lightly used or sharpened Imperial PROV. R.I. USA Model No. 802 2-Blade Serpentine Jack Folding Pocket Knife. The knife has a barely used or sharpened carbon steel muskrat main blade with a common nail pull. Both blade faces have quite a bit of light pitting up and down each face. Stamped on the front tang is Imperial (with the Imperial crown over the ri)(over)PROV. R.I. USA (with USA stamped vertically). This dates the knife to between c.1956-1988 though I believe this one is from the 1950’s or 1960’s and this one is definitely a clamshell frame. It has a lightly used or sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. Both faces have some very light staining and light pitting. Both blades still have good to excellent open and close snap with no play or wobble. The knife has a nice set of very yellow celluloid scales. They’re in good condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. It has a round, likely steel or Nuloy, shield inlaid in the front scale stamped with the Imperially crown logo. There are two (2) steel handle pins in each scale. This definitely a clamshell knife as the bolsters, end caps and handle underlays are all stamped as one piece of metal They are then attached to the end of the frame with metal tabs. The rounded bolsters and end caps are made from a single piece of Nuloy metal and each bolster has a single flute. The knife has steel liners and two (2) steel back springs with no cracks or breaks. They continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. The knife is 3 1/4” in length. Made by the Imperial Knife Co that was located in Providence, Rhode Island and was made between c.1956-1988. Additional photos or information on request.
