This Wilbert Cutlery Co. folding Hunter was made for Sears Roebuck around c.1909 by either Napanoch or Empire. Both Napanoch and Empire were some of the highest quality knife makers of that era. This beauty has a very lightly used, if ever, but cleaned and polished carbon steel saber clip blade with a long nail pull. There are three tiny specks or very light spider legs on the front face but the rear face is clean. Stamped on the front tang is WILBERT (over) CUTLERY CO (over) CHICAGO. The blade has a excellent, hard and loud alligator snap on both open and close. It has a distinct hard half-stop. The Knife has a great set of black with a bit of red Cocobolo or redwood scales with a bit of red scales. The front scale has a dent or scratch from the top of the shield up to the liner. The rear scale has what appears to be a very long scratch that runs the length of the scale. It’s possible there’s a tight crack on the end cap pin that runs from the pin to the end cap but it’s hard to tell absolutely but I’m going to call it a tight crack. There is a large 1 95/8” long brightly polished Nickel Silver fancy gimp style shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three (3) nickel silver handle pins in each scale scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver elongated bolsters and brightly polished nickel silver rounded end caps. Plus there’s a factory drilled hole in the end caps for a lanyard.   It has brightly polished nickel silver liners. There’s a single heavy duty polished steel back with no cracks or breaks. It continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. It continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform.
