This is a **RARE** Vintage & Antique VULCAN KNIFE CO 2-Blade Half-Congress Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Sheepfoot Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Set of Simulated Tortoise Shell Celluloid Scales with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, a Brightly Polished German Silver Long Bar Shield Inlaid in the Front Scale and Stamped within it “PATD APR 5-92 (as in 1892), Nickel Silver Squared Bolsters, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, A Single Steel Back Spring with No Breaks or Cracks, 3 1/2” in Length, Made by the Vulcan Knife Co. of Germany Sometime Around c.1895. 

If you collect rare or obscure brands then this may be one you don’t have. It’s only the third one I’ve ever had.  This is a Vulcan Knife Co. knife made in Germany in the 1890’s. It’s a 2-blade half-congress pen pocket knife and still in very good condition with no cracks in the scales and great snap on both blades. It has a used and sharpened carbon steel sheepfoot main blade with a common nail pull. It’s been cleaned at some point and re-polished. Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening and both have some scattered very light pitting. Stamped on the front tang is VULCAN (over) KNIFE CO. On the smaller end of the frame is a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. It’s also been cleaned and re-polished. Both faces has scratches from use and sharpening and scattered light pitting.  Stamped on the rear tang is VULCAN (over) KNIFE CO.  Both blades still have excellent, hard and loud snap on open and close and both have hard half-stops. The scales on this knife are a good looking set of simulated tortoise shell celluloid. They’re free of any cracks, breaks or missing chips though there is a dent on the rear scale. There are no handle pins in the scales but it does have a brightly polished German Silver long bar shield centered on the front scale and it’s attached with two (2) nickel silver pins. Stamped within the shield is PATD APR 5-92 and the 92 is short for 1892. The liners are polished brass. The knife has a single steel back spring.  It’s free of any breaks or cracks and it continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform.
