HESSENBRUCH & CO. 3-Blade Equal End Splitback Whittler Pen Folding Pocket Knife with an Unused and Unsharpened Carbon Steel Narrow Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, an Unused and Unsharpened Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Dual Sided Nail File, or Manicure, Tertiary Blade, a Set of Fiery Mother-of-Pearl Scales with a Single Tight Crack on the Front Scale, a Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Short Bar Shield Inlaid Flush in the Front Scale, Three (3) Brightly Polished Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Rounded Bolsters Each with Four (4) Flutes, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, Two Steel Back Springs in a Splitback Configuration with No Cracks or Breaks, 3” in Length, Made by T. Hessenbruch and Company, Which was Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Made Between c.1873 and 1906.

This rare old antique T. Hessenbruch & Co. Equal End Splitback Whittler Pen Folding Picket Knife has managed to survive still in good condition even after all these many years. The knife has an unused and unsharpened carbon steel narrow spear point main blade with a common nail pull. The front face has a few rub marks and a tiny bit of light putting. The rear face is pretty clean other than some residue from a previous cleaning attempt. The blade still retains most of its original factory finish and its original factory edge. Stamped on the front tang is T. HESSENBRUCH (in a large arch) (over) & CO The secondary blade is an unused and unsharpened carbon steel pen blade with a common nail pull. Both faces have some residue from cleaning and from oiling but both faces still retain much of their original factory finish and it’s original factory edge. It also has a carbon steel dual-sided fingernail file, or manicure, tertiary blade. Each face has a standard vertical ridge and valley type file and the fingernail cleaner is the top portion of the blade. All three blades still have excellent open and close snap. The knife has a set of genuine fiery Mother-of-Pearl scales. There is a single tight liner to liner center pin crack on the front scale. Other than this there are no other cracks, splits or missing chips. There is a shallow easy open on the top of each scale that allows easier access to the blade’s nail pulls. There’s a short brightly polished nickel silver bar shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three (3) brightly polished brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver rounded bolsters with each having four (4) narrow flutes. The knife has brightly polished brass liners. It has two steel back springs with no cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This great looking old and Rare T. Hessenbruch & Co. Splitback Whittler Pen Pocket Knife was Made Between c.1873-1906. The knife is 3” in length. Additional photos or information on request.
