This is a Vintage Antique AMERICAN SHEAR & KNIFE CO 2-Blade Shadow Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Carbon Steel Narrow Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Nice Set of Black Ebony Wood Scales In Excellent Condition with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, Three (3) Nickel Silver Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, a Single Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, 2 3/4” in Length, Made by the American Shear & Knife  Company that was Located in Hotchkissville, Connecticut with this Knife Being Made Between c.1870-1914.

This is a very nice antique American Shear & Knife Equal End Shadow Pen Folding Pocket Knife.  It has a carbon steel long spear point main blade with a common nail pull.  Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening and just a little scattered light staining but both faces polished up well.  Stamped on the front tang is AMERICAN (in an arch)(over) SHEAR (over) & KNIFE CO. On the other end is a carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull.  Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening. The front face has some very light micro-pitting above and below the nail pull.  The rear face has some scattered stains. Stamped on the front tang is AMERICAN (in an arch)(over) SHEAR (over) & KNIFE CO. The pen blade has excellent snap on open and close and a hard half-stop. The spear blade has a good “thump” on open and a hard half-stop but is quiet and grinds some to close. This knife has a great set of black Ebony wood scales. They’re in excellent condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There are three brightly polished nickel handle pins in each scale. The top and bottom liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has one (1) steel back spring and it’s free of any cracks or breaks and continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This great old vintage antique Shadow Pen Folding Pocket Knife is 107-141 years old. Made by American Shear & Knife of Hotchkissville, Connecticut between c.1870-1914. The knife is 2 3/4” in length.
