Co SPECIAL (Biddle Hdwe Philadelphia) 4-Blade Equal End Coffin Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Lightly Used Carbon Steel Sheepfoot Point Main Blade with a Long Nail Pull, 2 Carbon Steel Pen Blades with Long Nail Pulls, a Carbon Steel Dual-Sided Standard Vertical Ridge and Valley Type Nail File, or Manicure Blade, with a Long Nail Pull, a Great Set of Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales in Perfect Condition with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, Three Polished Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished German Silver Squared Bolsters with a Single Wide Flute, Polished Brass Liners, Two Steel Back Springs with No Breaks or Cracks, 3” in Length, Made for the Biddle Hardware Company that was Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Before they Merged with and Became Supple-Biddle Hardware in 1920 and Thus Made Between c.1837-1920.

This is a Vintage RARE, hard to Find B.H. Co SPECIAL 4-Blade Coffin Pen Folding Pocket Knife. B.H. Co. stood for the giant Biddle Hardware Store Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have one of their full catalogs from 1920 and it had everything you can and couldn’t imagine. The catalog is at least 8” thick. They merged with Supple in 1920 and the became Supple-Biddle Hardware at that time  Which means this knife was made prior to 1920.  All three cutting blades still have much of their original factory mirror polish.  It has a carbon steel sheepfoot point main blade with a long nail pull. The front face has a few scratches from use but is otherwise clean and the rear face has a few scattered light stains or specks. Stamped on the front tang is B.H. Co (over) SPECIAL. Next to it is one of the two carbon steel pen blades with a long nail pull. Both faces have scratches from use but other than that they’re pretty clean. Stamped on the front tang is B.H. Co (over) SPECIAL. On the other end of the frame is the second of the two carbon steel pen blades with a long nail pull. It has quite a bit of scratching from use and sharpening and a few scattered stains on rear face. Stamped on the front tang is B.H. Co (over) SPECIAL. The final blade is a carbon steel file, or manicure, blade. It has a two-sided standard vertical ridge and valley style nail file. The top portion of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. The front edge of the fingernail portion is sharpened. Stamped on the front tang is GERMANY  Stamped on the rear tang is B.H. Co (over) SPECIAL.  All four blades still have hard open and close snap and hard snap on the half-stops. The scales on this knife are a beautiful set of genuine Mother-of-Pearl and they’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits, missing chips or slivers. There are three brightly polished brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has brightly polished German Silver squared bolsters with a single wide flute.  The blade liners are polished brass. The knife has two steel back springs and they’re both free of any breaks or cracks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This rare old hard to find Vintage B.H. Co SPECIAL 4-Blade Coffin Pen Pocket knife was made in Germany to be sold in the Biddle Hardware Store located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and made between c.1837-1920. The knife is 3” in length.
