This is a Vintage & Antique H&B (Humason & Beckley) 2-Blade Wharncliffe Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Wharncliffe Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Set of Multi-Shaded Green Swirl Pattern Celluloid Scales with No Cracks or Splits, Three (3) Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, a Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Crest Shaped Shield Inlaid Flush in the Front Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Rounded Bolsters, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, A Single Steel Back Spring with No Breaks or Cracks, 3 1/4” in Length, Made by Humason & Beckley Located in New Britain, Connecticut and Made Between c.1852-1916. 

This is a very old Antique Humason & Beckley 2-Blade Wharncliffe Pen Folding Pocket Knife made between c.1852-1916 but actually between c.1872-1916 as 1872 was the first year celluloid was commercially used for knife handles. It’s also a less common pattern. It has a used and sharpened carbon steel Wharncliffe main blade with a common nail pull. Both faces have scratches from use but other than a few very light stains both faces are generally clean and polished up brightly. Stamped on the front tang is H&B (over) NEW (over) BRITAIN (over) CONN.  On the smaller end of the frame is a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. Both faces also have scratches from use and sharpening and also polished up brightly. Stamped on the front tang is H&B (over) NEW (over) BRITAIN (over) CONN. But on this blade the tang has a rare double stamp which doesn’t quite line up with the first stamping. The Wharncliffe blade has an excellent, hard and loud snap on open and close. The pen blade has an excellent snap on close but is kind of quiet on open. It also has just a little side to side wobble. The scales on this knife are a multi-shaded green celluloid in a sort of a swirl pattern. They’re in excellent condition with no cracks, splits, missing chips or missing slivers. There’s a brightly polished nickel silver crest shaped shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three (3) nickel silver handle pins in each scale. The bolsters are rounded brightly polished nickel silver as well. The liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has a single steel back spring.  It’s free of any breaks or cracks, though it does have some very light micro-pitting but it continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This Vintage and Antique Humason & Beckley 2-Blade Wharncliffe Pen Folding Pocket Knife is an uncommon pattern. The knife is 3 1/4” in length. Additional photos or information on request.
