This is a Vintage or Antique JMF CO ATTLEBORO (JM Fisher) 2-Blade Oval Lobster Pen or Watch Fob Knife with an Unused and Unsharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Fingernail File, or Manicure, Blade with a Common Nail Pull that Opens From the Bottom of the Knife, Gold Toned Etched or Embossed Metal Scales, Internal Back Springs, 2 1/4” in Length, Made by the JM Fisher Co. of Attleboro, Massachusetts Between c.1880-1930’s

This knife isn’t to be confused with a small JMF Dezigns Co, also in Attleboro, that’s been in business the last 9 years as a 2-man operation making jewelry from stones. This knife was made by the original JM Fisher Co that started around c.1880 in Attleboro. This is a still nice 2-blade oval lobster pen or watch fob pocket knife though the bail is now missing. It has an unused and unsharpened carbon steel narrow spear point main blade with a common nail pull. The front face has a bit of light staining just past the end of the nail pull. The rear face has a small amount of scattered light staining and just a few minor pits along a small portion of the top edge. Stamped on the front tang is JMF CO (inside a diamond)(over) ATTLEBORO. Opening from the bottom of the frame is a carbon steel fingernail file, or manicure, blade with a common nail pull. The face that folds face down into the frame has a standard ridge and valley style file surface. The other three sides are smooth. The top part of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. The spear blade is still tight in the frame and I still haven’t gotten it loosed up well enough and there is no snap on open or close. Not because the blade is too loose or there’s a back spring problem it’s just because I haven’t gotten all the gunk out yet.The handles are gold toned etched or embossed metal. The front handle has a very intricate and decorative multiple designs. There’s a smooth oval in the center of the front handle if one wanted to etch one’s initials. It has a very decorative border around it as well. The rear handle is just a flat smooth surface in case you wanted to etch the Declaration of Independence or your wedding vows or such and needed a bit more space. This vintage or antique knife was made as a watch fob knife but unfortunately the bail is missing but that’s a pretty easy fix if one has the proper tools and skill set. This JM Fisher Oval Lobster Pen, or formerly watch fob, knife was made between c.1880 and the early 1930’s when pocket watches were rapidly falling out of favor to the wristwatch.
