This is a very Rare Tyler & Co Celebrated Cutlery 3-Blade Equal End Splitback Whittler Pen Folding Pocket Knife. Even with the single crack on the rear scale it’s still a nice example of 20th century knife.  It has a carbon steel long spear point main blade with a long nail pull.  Front face The front face shows just some scratches from us and the rear face gas just a small pit or two. Stamped on the front tang is TYLER & CO (over) CELEBRATED (over) CUTLERY. On the other end of the frame is a carbon steel pen secondary blade with a long nail pull. Just a little light staining on either face otherwise it polished up pretty brightly. Stamped on the front tang is TYLER & CO (over) CELEBRATED (over) CUTLERY. Next to it is a carbon steel dual-sided nail file, or manicure, tertiary blade. It has a standard vertical ridge and valley type fingernail file on each face with the top end being the fingernail cleaner. The front edge of the fingernail cleaner is sharpened. All three blades still have excellent hard snap on open and close and the the two smaller blades have very hard half-stops. This knife has a set of  brown and good imitation tortoiseshell scales. It does have a single end pin crack on the rear scale that runs liner to liner through the pin. This is the only flaw on the scales. There is a shallow easy open on the top of each scale to allow easier access to the bail pulls on the pen and bail file blades. It has three (3) nickel silver handle pins in each scale. There is a long narrow nickel silver oval shield inlaid flush in the front scale. The knife has nickel silver rounded bolsters. The top and bottom liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has two (2) steel back springs in a split back spring configuration. This allows the pen and and file blade to each ride on their own back spring while the wider spear blade rides on both back springs. Both springs are free of any cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This antique Tyler & Co Celebrated Cutlery 3-Blade Splitback Whittler Pen Knife was made by Theile & Quack in Eberfeld, Germany between c.1866-1890 and is 3 7/16” in length. For a 131-165 years old it’s still in pretty good condition.  The knife is 3 1/4” in length. Additional photos or information on request.
