This a Vintage VIKING E.W.  N.Y. (Eric Wedemeyer New York) 1-Blade w/Fish Scaler Fishing Knife with a Single Carbon Steel Long Clip Point Blade with a Fish Scaler on More than Half of the Top of the Blade, with a Common Nail Pull, Beautiful Multi-Colored Mostly Green and Some Black Scales, Nickel Silver Rounded Bolsters, Clasp Style Nickel Silver End Caps and a Hook Remover on the Very End, Nickel Silver Liners, a Single Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, 5” in Length, Likely Made by the Union Cutlery Co. for Eric Wedemeyer of New York  and Made Between c.1931-1934.

This is a Vintage Viking 1-Blade Fish Knife most probably made by the Union Cutlery Co for Eric Wedemeyer of New York who owned the Viking brand between c.1931-1934.  It has a single 4 1/16” long carbon steel long clip point blade with a common nail pull and a fish scaler on the top of the blade from the end of the nail pull to the blade tip. The front face has barely a single scratch from use and only a few light specks. The rear face has just a small but of very light staining along the top of the blade. Stamped on the front tang is VIKING (inside a diamond)(over) E.W.  N.Y.  The blade still has an excellent and loud open and close snap.  The blade is still pretty close to, if not, full.  I just live these green colored shells on the black background. I’ve always thought these scales looked like liquified gold. They have the appearance of being in a liquid form. I like these scales so much I once had a collection of them in nearly every pattern. They’re in excellent plus condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. These unique shell handles display great. There is a brightly polished gimp style shield tabbed into the front scale. Within the shield it’s stamped FISH-KNIFE.  There are three (3) brightly polished nickel silver handle pins in each scale. It has nickel silver rounded bolsters and clasp style nickel silver end caps.  Stamped on front end cap is an arrow pointing towards the end of the cap and HOOK REMOVER which is where the hook remover is located. The liners are steel or nickel silver. The knife has a single steel back spring that’s free of any cracks or breaks and it still continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This great looking Eric Wedemeyer VIKING 1-Blade Fish Knife with the gorgeous green and black shell scales is 5” in length and made between c.1931-1934. Additional photos or information on request.
