This knife is in AMAZING condition, from the 1980's I believe? The back of the knife reads, "Touche Gerber Portland, Oregon 97223 USA U.S. PAT NO 4,389,775" The knife hides inside the belt buckle and is a great item for both knife and buckle collectors. The buckle measures 1.75"x2 5/8" and the knife is 5" long with a 1.75" blade.

While wearing the belt buckle you push your thumb down on the Scrimshaw to release the locking mechanism. As the blade rotates it disengages from the buckle. The blade doesn't appear to ever have been sharpened post manufacturing, but IT IS SHARP!

Scrimshaw is in excellent condition. It's an image of two Bucks standing in tall grass, with rolling mountains as a back drop.  The shading is incredible as the mountains get lighter and lighter as they appear to fade in the distance. The detail in the bucks and grass is phenomenal.. The signature reads "Boucher" and is that of Scrimshaw artist Mark Allan Boucher (1949-2018) . Boucher hired in 1979 by Gerber Legendary Blades in Tigard, working in the factory sharpening knives. His line drawings for Gerber ads were soon recognized and he became well known for his amazing wildlife scrimshaw on knife handles. In his spare time he applied this talent creating scenes on bones, ivory and whale teeth for many scrimshaw enthusiasts. With the onset of computer technology and his interest in graphic design, he became Gerber's Senior Graphic Designer. After 38 years his co-workers dubbed him a "legend."

This would make a great addition to any Buckle OR Knife collection, and a great conversation starter.  It also still functions completely and the blade looks brand new. If you're looking for a way to discretly carry a knife this is probably better quality then most modern buckle knives. You cannot beat vintage American quality.
