Model No. 42219 4-Blade (2 Cutting Blades and 3 Tools) Camp/Utility Folding Pocket Knife with a Round Shield in Lieu of the Compass, a Very Lightly Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade, a Lightly Used or Sharpened Carbon Steel Stubby Clip Point Blade, a Carbon Steel Combo-Blade with a Cap-Lifter and a Flat-Blade Screwdriver, a Carbon Steel Leather Punch, an Excellent Plus Set of Medium Brown Jigged Worm Grooved Stag Scales with No Cracks, Splits or Missing Chips, a Small Notch in the Front Scale Where the Thumb Stud of the Clip Blade Seats When Closed and a Shallow Easy Open on the Top of the Rear Scale for Easier Access to the Punch, Four (4) Nickel Silver Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Rounded Bolsters, the Original Shackle Still Riveted to the Bolsters, Brightly Polished Brass Liners, Two Heavy Duty Steel Back Springs with No Cracks or Breaks, 3 3/4” in Length, Made by the Cattaraugus Cutlery Company Which was Located in Little Valley, New York Between c.1886-1963.

This is a hard to find Vintage CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY CO. Model No. 42219 4-Blade Camp or Utility Knife but instead of a compass that the 42219 came with it has a round plain nickel shield. The knife has never been drilled for a compass so it left the factory this way. I’ve only seen one or two others like it. This knife is bigger and longer than the Whitt-L-Kraft Official BSA Scout Cattaraugus made. This knife has 2 cutting blades and 3 different tools.  The blades have been clean and repolished but done so very well.  The main blade is a barely used and unsharpened carbon steel spear point blade with a common nail pull. Both faces still show some vestiges of very light use and some light micropitting if you look at the blade closely. Stamped on the front tang is the CATTARAUGUS (in an arch)(over) CUTLERY CO (over) LITTLE VALLEY (over) N.Y. Stamped on the rear tang is U.S. PAT. (over) 1115780.  The patent involved blade configuration where they don’t interfere with the accuracy of the compass, however, this knife was made sans compass. Next to it is a carbon steel stubby clip point blade. It’s polished up brightly with only some light scratches from prior to being cleaned. On the other end of the frame is a carbon steel combo blade. It consists of a cap-lifter on the bottom of the blade and a flat blade screwdriver on the top end of the blade. Stamped on the rear tang is the model number of 42219. The other blade is a carbon steel leather punch blade in perfect condition with the tip still intact. The convex face is pretty clean with only some light staining on the convex side. When closed the thumb stud of the clip point blade seats into a notch on top of the front scale.  All four blades still have excellent plus and hard open and close snap. The knife has a nice set of medium to dark brown jigged worm grooved stag scales. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There is a notch in the top of the front scale where the thumb stud rests when the clip blade is closed. There’s a shallow easy open on top of the rear scale that allows for easier access to the leather punch. There are four (4) polished nickel silver handle pins in each scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver rounded bolsters. The original steel shackle is still attached to the bolsters with nickel silver rivets. The knife has brightly polished brass outside liners and a brightly polished steel bottom center liner. The knife has two heavy duty steel back springs. Both back springs are free of any cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This great vintage Cattaraugus Model No. 42219 4-Blade Camp or Utility Folding Pocket Knife without the compass is 3 3/4” in length. Additional information or photos upon request.
