This is a Vintage or Antique EMPIRE WINSTED CT. 4-Blade Equal End Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Spear Point Main Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a 2nd Used and Sharpened Carbon Steel Pen Tertiary Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Dual-Sided Nail File, or Manicure Blade, a Set of Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales with Two Cracks on the Rear Scale, a Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Long Narrow Bar Shield Inlaid Flush and Centered in the Front Scale, Three Brass Handle Pins in Each Scale, 2 Shallow Easy Opens on the Top of Each Scale to Allow Easier Access to Each Blade’s Nail Pull, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Liners with Some Nice File Work, Two Steel Back Springs with No Cracks or Breaks, 2 13/16” in Length, Made by the Empire Knife Co. Which was Located in Winsted, Connecticut and Made Between c.1856-1930.

This is a Vintage or Antique Empire Winsted CT 4-blade shadow pen folding pocket knife. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a long nail pull. Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening and just a little micro-pitting along the top of the front face. Stamped on the front tang is EMPIRE (over) WINSTED (over) CT. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a long nail pull. Both faces have scratches from use and cleaning but are otherwise clean. Stamped on the front tang is EMPIRE (over) WINSTED (over) CT. On the other end of the scale is a second used and sharpened carbon steel pen blade with a long nail pull. It has scratches from use but otherwise is clean and polished up well. Also on this end is a carbon steel dual-sided nail file, or manicure, blade. It has a standard vertical ridge and valley type nail file on each face. The top portion of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. All four blades polished up nice and bright. All four blades have very good to excellent snap on open and close and all four have hard half-stops. The knife has a set of fairly fiery Genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales with great color. The front scale is in the perfect condition. The rear scale has a tight crack between the center and end pins that looks to be more of a result of a weak spot in the shell’s surface. There is also another crack, a pin crack, on the rear scale on the file blade pivot end. Both cracks are tight and the scale is still perfectly stable. It has a brightly polished nickel silver long narrow bar shield inlaid flush in the center of the front scale. fancy shaped shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three polished brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has The liners are brightly polished brass and have some excellent file work on all of them. The knife has two polished steel back springs and they’re free of any cracks or breaks. Both springs continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This great old vintage or antique Empire Winsted CT 4-blade Shadow Pen Folding Pocket Knife is 2 13/16” in length and made between c.1855-1930 in Winsted, Connecticut.
