Simmons Hardware Co of St. Louis, Missouri Using Their Mound City Trademark c.1883.

This is a **VERY RARE** Mound City Cutlery 2-Blade Swell Center Shadow Lobster Pen Pocket Knife. Made for Sale by the E.C. Simmons Hardware Co of St. Louis, Missouri around c.1883 using their Mound City Cutlery trademark. This is the only example using that trademark that I’ve ever seen. The knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel narrow spear point main blade with a long nail pull opening from the top of the frame. Both faces have some scratches from use and some very light scattered pitting. They still polished up very brightly. Stamped on the front tang is MOUND (over) CITY (over) what is hard to make out but looks like CUT  COS or CUTL CS. Opening from the bottom of the frame is a carbon steel button hook that polished up very well. The spear blade is kind of quiet on open but has a good snap on close. The button hook has an excellent hard snap on open and close. The scales appear to be an embossed synthetic of some kind. They’re a goldish color and embossed in a pretty intricate berry, leaves and vines flora motif. They’re in excellent condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There are two hard to see handle pins in each scale. It has brightly polished Brass liners on both top and bottom. The springs are internal and continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This unique, very rare, hard to find fancy Mound City Shadow Lobster Pen Knife was made for sale by the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company around c.1883. Additional photos or information on request.
