This is an Antique or Vintage EMPIRE STAINLESS Sterling Silver Sleeveboard Lobster Pen Folding Pocket Knife with a Used and Sharpened Stainless Steel Sheepsfoot Main Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Used ad Sharpened Stainless Nail File, or Manicure, Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull Opening From the Bottom of the Frame, Brightly Polished Sterling Silver Smooth Handles, the Original Bail Still Attached to the Frame with Rivets and Stamped Sterling, Handles Also Serve as the Liners, Internal Back Springs, 2 1/4” in Length, Made by the Empire Knife Co. Located in Winsted, Connecticut and Made Between c.1856-1930.

This is a beautiful Empire Winsted CT Sleeveboard Sterling Silver Lobster Pen Pocket Knife with brightly polished Sterling Silver handles both with smooth surfaces. Etched into the front scale are the initials of MJF. Both scales do have some light scratches but no dents or dings. It has a used and sharpened stainless steel sheepsfoot main blade with a common nail pull that opens from the top of the frame. Both of the faces have some scratches from use but are otherwise clean. Stamped on the front tang is EMPIRE (over) STAINLESS. Opening from the bottom of the scale is a stainless steel nail file, or manicure, secondary blade. The two sides and the top surface are smooth except for a long nail pull on one side. On the surface that fold face down into the frame is a standard ridge and valley type nail file. The top portion of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. Stamped on the bottom of the file blade is STAINLESS. Both blades still have very good open and close snap except the nail file which is more of a light thud on opening. The knife has a beautiful set of brightly polished sterling silver scales with both surfaces smooth and flat. Etched on the front scale are the initials MJF. Both scales have some very light scratches from handling. It still has its original bail still attached with its original rivets. Stamped on the bail are two B’s each inside a circle (Beaverbrook?) STERLING. The scales also serve as the liners and the back springs are internal. The knife has a single polished steel back spring with no cracks or breaks. It continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This vintage or antique Empire Winsted Lobster Pen Pocket knife was made in Winsted, Connecticut between c.1856-1930 and is 2 1/4” in length.  Additional information or photos on request.
