DAMAGE:   This knife has been used and carried but obviously well cared for. Someone, I spec not the original owner had tried to sharpen the blade with a Dremel tool which left some scratches on the blade. See pictures. Normal wear, scratches, dings from being carried in a pocket.

BLADE WEAR:   Approximately 10% to 15%.

SNAP:   Excellent snap on the scissors and the pin blade, the manicure blade snaps open and close but not with as much authority as the other two blades.

ADDITIONAL INFO:   My experience with Parker Cutlery Company and other Parker brands has been a mixed one. I have seen some of the Parker knives that I thought were poorly made. I have seen other knives bearing his name that were outstanding and some that were, in my estimation, undervalued compared to their quality. I believe this piece falls in the latter category. Many of the lobster knives that I have seen and owned over the years have been very lightweight and not too substantial. This one has a survived I believe because it is a little bit heavier than most of them and maybe just a little bit larger as well. The thing that really catches my eye with this is the Scrimshaw. There is a Scrimshaw picture on the front handle of whaling ship. On the right side of the handle is Scrimshaw at a diving whale. The tail is visible in the air, but the ink has been worn off in that area. I would think it would be a fairly simple process to re-ink it with some India ink and a very fine camel hair brush. I have attempted some Scrimshaw myself, while the theory is relatively simple, make scratches in the bone, ivory, plastic whatever, and then put ink in the scratches. It is much more difficult to do that it is to describe. That said, I believe it would be fairly easy for someone to re-ink this so the tail would be readily visible again. The lines are there, the ink is just faded or worn off.

The rear handle is Scrimshaw with someone's initials, FPB, on a ribbon. This too could be made much clearer by simply refreshing the ink in the Scrimshaw lines. This is a cool little piece that has survived quite nicely from probably the 1970s or 1980s, and one of the more functional lobster designs I've encountered. It's large enough that I can get a good hold on it with my big hands.
