POMMEL:  Aluminum birds head pommel

HANDLE:   Leather ring handle (over single tang).

TANG STAMPS:   WESTERN / U.S.A. L66 / J

SHEATH:   Factory molded leather sheath with Coleman Western snap.

CONDITION:   Near Mint

DAMAGE:   Minor spots of discoloration on the carbon steel blade some light scratches on the on the pile side of the blade. The sheath does have some scratch marks on the front of it, see pictures.

BLADE WEAR:   The blade is full and while it may have been lightly honed

AGE:     Dated per the J on the tang stamp.  the knife was made in 1986.

MADE IN:   U. S. A.  

ADDITIONAL INFO:    When I first looked at this knife I thought it was made by Camillus after they purchased Western Cutlery Company in 1991. However, the J date code on the tang stamp indicates that this knife was manufactured in 1986, five years prior to the purchase of the company by Camillus. I'm not sure when this pattern was changed to a single tang instead of the bifurcate it tang, but  

Obviously at some point that change was enacted. This knife is about as close as I've seen to one of these being in mint condition. The sheath has some scratching on the front but the knife itself Appears to have been used very little if any. The sheath is correct for the period in which the knife was made and the button on the snap identifies it as being made in the period when Coleman owned Western Cutlery.
