ADDITIONAL INFO: This is a neat old Marbles knife that was in sad shape when I bought it. The leather handle was rotted, even the fiber spacers were brittle, the only part of the handle I was able to salvage were the brass rings. The original pommel was black Bakelite which according to C. Houston Price is an indicator it was made during World War II. According to Bernard Levine, LG 4, Marbles did not make contract knives for the US military, probably because they were higher-priced but military buyers did pick up most of Marbles commercial inventory and output between 1941 in 1945. The original pommel was broken, and since here are no black Bakelite pommel's available, that I am aware of, so I decided to use a piece of crown stag. Marbles used do something similar with a piece of bone or a piece of stag that they had jigged and used for a pommel, but I don't think they ever use the actual crown of a piece of stag. This is not sambar stag; it is deer stag but I don't know what species it is. I got this piece of crown stag on a visit to Alaska this summer from an antler buyer near Anchorage.
The sheath I made myself, it is handsewn and riveted from heavier material than what is usually used on sheaths in that era. It's ready to be displayed in your collection, or ride on your hip on your next hunting or fishing trip.
This is a restored & customized vintage knife. Like most old soldiers it may have a few battle scars, but it is ready to go to work!
